Protoplanetary Disks

Scroll

During my PhD I worked on fluid dynamics and plasma physics of protostellar disks.

On the right you can see an simulation we ran of the magnetic resonant drag instability, a dust-plasma instability similar to the streaming instability. Learn more in Seligman, Hopkins & Squire 2019

I also developed a vorticity preserving, compressible fluid code to study the dynamics of turbulent protoplanetary disks. On the right you can see an animation of a vortex merger in a protoplanetary disk with this code. Learn more in our papers Seligman & Laughlin 2017 and Seligman & Shariff 2019.
